Hidden between the trees and bushes, along the edge of the forest
says to ALL: Walks along the paths connecting My snares , gathering small dead furry things.Coming upon one a bit deeper in the forest , I find it has been torn and the ground spattered with blood. The brush seemed to have been flattened by a larger animal that ripped whatever was snared free and had a quick meal. There were small tufts of a hair on a thornbush.Pulling them free and giving them a sniff and a rub , I look on them and see the slight mottling of a forest sleen.Touching the blod , it is still wet though has cooled.

says to ALL: I string up what I had already harvested high in a tree and begin following the track of the sleen through the underbrush. The path was remarkably easy to track , as if the animal were injured and unable to slip through the briars as easily as a sleen tended to.As I looked onto the tracks it did appear that the beast was dragging two legs.It was not raiding my trap lines for fun , it was raiding them to stay alive.

says to ALL: Staying as low as I could and moving slowly, I listened and watched through the bared trees and browned brush.Little snow had fallen through the upper branches , but there was enough to help track the sleen. The track moved deeper into the tress then veered sharply toward the treeline once more.I came to realize that it was headed toward another snare of Mine.I quickened My pace hoping the beast was st ill hunting.

says to ALL: Bringing My spear up as I hear the sounds of twigs breaking and a low steady growl ahead.Keeping My head up as I crouch and move forward toward the snare. As I slip past a thick tree I spy the beast shaking t head trying to rip something from the wire.I had to act while it was distracted.I leapt up and rushed forward , drawing back the spear. The noise the sleen was making drown out the sounds of My footfalls. As I ran , I arced to My right giving Me a clear view of the beast's flank.I could see a pair of legs swollen limp , perhaps the result of a fight with anothe rof its kind.Regardless. I neared and loosed the spear, aiming toward its heart.

says to ALL: The honed iron head bit deep into the beast's side and it slashed sieways as if seeking its tormentor. It hissed and tried to slink into the brush as I gave chase. the long shaft of the spear fouling its attempts to move between saplings.A bright trail of crimson would have made tracking the sleen easy but it was pierced to the heart and feel soon after being stung.I stood at it tail a good several paces away and watched its final breaths. Not wishing to tempt fate , I approached slowly once the breathing had stopped.I planted a heavy boot upon the back of its head and drew My large knife across its throat.I waitd as a stream of blood flowed along the ground then sought out a sturdy branch to which I could suspend My prize. An ahn's worth of work awaited Me gutting ,skinning and butchering the sleen. But it was welcome work indeed.
